"Right sock, then left sock?"

blog
over explaining

My bff, college roommate (friends since we were 13), had a running joke about me.

"Okay, Meghan ... and then you're gonna put on your right sock. Then your left sock?"

Because I was constantly over-explaining everything … every plan, every decision.

I felt like I had to, with everybody.

It was an ongoing, lowkey running panic that I can see now, a safety-fear habit of trying to justify my own existence.

It’s not thoughtfulness like we think it is.

It’s a nervous system that doesn't feel safe unless it's accounted for everything, out loud, to everyone ... completely leaving myself out.

If any part of this just made you go "oh" ... that's worth paying attention to.

We go to the root of that together, the habit of over-explaining, and what's actually underneath it.

So you are actually included in your own life. Instead of narrating it, justifying your existence, over-explaining, and defending it to everyone else.

Where do you catch yourself explaining-justifying-defending your life instead of just living it?

It's time for you to actually be included in your life … again, or for the first time 🤍

Love,

Meghan
